Challenge

Outdated Magento Version & Lack of Customization Features

Salt Life’s website was running on an outdated version of Magento (2.3.4), which posed performance and security risks. Additionally, the site lacked a personalized feature that would allow customers to engage with the brand in a more interactive and meaningful way. Salt Life wanted to introduce a T-shirt customization feature on the product detail page (PDP), where customers could select a variety of options to design their own products.

To keep up with the growing demand for mobile experiences and ensure the platform was prepared for the future, the team needed to upgrade Magento to a newer, more scalable version. They also sought to integrate a Progressive Web App (PWA) for faster mobile performance and enhanced usability.

Magento Version Upgrade & Custom T-Shirt Design Integration

Mavenbird successfully upgraded Salt Life’s Magento platform from 2.3.4 to 2.4.5, implementing important security patches, performance optimizations, and future-proofing the website. This upgrade gave Salt Life the necessary tools to scale, improved backend operations, and offered a better user experience for their customers.

To further enrich the shopping experience, we developed a custom T-shirt design tool on the PDP page. This feature allowed customers to select from multiple customization options such as colors, designs, and logos, giving them the opportunity to personalize their items before purchase. The tool was designed to be intuitive and engaging, creating a deeper connection between Salt Life and its customer base.

We also integrated the frontend as a PWA to ensure that mobile users experienced fast load times and smooth performance, even on low network conditions. GraphQL APIs were developed to improve the data flow between Magento and the PWA frontend, allowing for real-time updates, smoother interactions, and quicker responses for users across all devices.
