Key Highlights of Magento 2.4.8 Release

Adobe Commerce 2.4.8 enhances security, offers PHP 8.4 and MariaDB 11.4 compatibility, significantly improves GraphQL API for faster Edge Delivery storefront migration, and includes 500+ quality fixes. Here are some notable enhancements of this latest update:

1. Security

  • Duo Security 2FA: Updated to latest Web SDK v4.
  • Encryption Keys: Redesigned key management for simplicity and reliability.
  • OTP Settings: Fixed backward-incompatible bug in OTP configuration.
  • Subresource Integrity: Refactored, with SRI hashes stored in pub/static per area.

2. Platform

  • Cache: Added support for Valkey 8.x.
  • Database: Now compatible with MariaDB 11.4 LTS and MySQL 8.4 LTS, using utf8mb4 collation by default.
  • Message Queue: Added RabbitMQ 4.x support; requires transition to quorum queues.
  • PHP: Adds PHP 8.4, removes 8.1. Supports 8.2 and requires upgrade to 8.3 before 2.4.8 upgrade.
  • Search: Fully optimized for OpenSearch 2.19; Elasticsearch deprecated.

3. Performance

  • Default indexer mode is now “Update by Schedule”.
  • REST API tier price updates are now significantly faster.

4. Quality

  • Inventory is decoupled from Catalog module dependencies.
  • Order comments UI label updated for clarity.

5. GraphQL Enhancements

  • New CartItemPrices and CartPrices fields for better tax/discount details.
  • “Free” payment method now appears only when order total is zero.
  • Added StoreConfig query for terms and conditions.
  • New customerSegments and resend confirmation mutations.
  • ProductInterface now includes stock quantity.
  • Support for catalog pricing rules and gift card pricing (incl./excl. tax).
  • Improved shipping/billing address fields with identifiers and “same_as_billing”.

Major Issues Fixed in Magento 2.4.8 Official Release

A total of 582 core issues were resolved in this release. Here are 10 key fixes:

  • Transactions API: Fixed infinite loop due to parent_txn_id = txn_id.
  • GraphQL: Fixed GetCustomSelectedOptionAttributes type issue.
  • Category URLs: Special characters in REST-created categories are now shown correctly.
  • Order Visibility: Fixed multi-website visibility issue via REST.
  • Guest Middle Name: Guest customer middle names now properly stored/displayed.
  • Admin UI: Button alignment fixed for better UI/UX.
  • Developer Info Command: Now properly lists constructor parameters.
  • Opt-in Translation: Enabled translation for opt-in checkbox label in admin.
  • Compare List Persistence: Compare list remains after user login.
  • Shipping Address: Avoided unnecessary reloads when modifying postal code.
